Field of Lupines

Posted by
Barbara Kile (Ft. Worth, United States) on 4 August 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Lupines and boats - a typical scene in Maine in the summer. Soft diffusion achieved with a 'soft ray' filter on the lens to subdue the sunny conditions. This was a lovely field of Lupines near New Harbor, ME. What a view the boats had!

A fine shot. Impressive for its soft colors which seem so appropriate for the floral foreground and the boats in the distance. Well done.

You achieved a nice look and feel. This must be June in Maine. What is a soft ray filter?

4 Aug 2009 8:49pm

@Anita: Thanks, Anita. The filter I use is the Singh Ray 'Soft Ray' that Tony Sweet endorses. It's helpful for the harsh landscape here in Texas and allows me to shoot a sunny scene, should I need to, and have it soften the landscape. I love it for fields of flowers. (Of which there haven't been many here lately!) It gives things a dreamy look and takes away that detailed harshness that I don't particularly care for.

Beautiful! The lupines just set off the Bay in a great way!

What a lovely scene. And I like what the filter did for this to "blend" the colors together. Thanks for sharing.
