Soft Stars

Posted by
Barbara Kile (Ft. Worth, United States) on 14 September 2009 in Art & Design and Portfolio.

This Star of Bethlehem needed something to provide contrast against the white flowers, but cried out for softness. I used a softened/blurred texture by Eddi07 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/spiritual_marketplace/) and then added another layer of mine with a soft light blending mode.

I then added a gentle white vignette blur.

'The Art of Flower Photography' is a new Spotlight gallery with images from some of Aminus3's best flower photographers and a tutorial on how to make great flower images:

Gary Hart from California, United States

Beautiful, Barbara. You're a master at capturing a very nice image, then using Photoshop to make it into something even better.

14 Sep 2009 5:37am

@Gary Hart: Thanks, Gary. No lush gardens here in the heat, so I attempt to make images where I can! With cooler weather the flowers should begin to bloom again and I'll head back outdoors to find some! I appreciate your stopping by!

PATRICK from miramas, France

very beautiful

Tomas Turecek from Czech Republic

This is wonderful, Barbara! So soft and delicate. The photo is perfect itself but your post-processing is amazing and adds yet more appeal. Are you showing and selling your work somewhere? I think that it would be worthy. Every single post of you is a masterpiece that deserves to be printed on a big format and hung on the wall in a living room.

14 Sep 2009 9:20am

@Tomas Turecek: Thank you, Tomas. I do market my work, but mostly photograph for the enjoyment. :-)

Anina from Auckland, New Zealand

WOW!!! Superb image!!!! I love this. You've got this technique mastered. Well done!!!!

This is another WORK of ART! Sublime! You should have your floral art printed, it would make a GREAT, SPLENDID album!

14 Sep 2009 10:22am

@Japanalia: Thanks for suggesting that, Japanalia. I'll figure out how to do something like you suggested. Appreciate your comment.

Anita from West Nottingham, United States

FABULOUS!! Fantastic work with textures.

25 Sep 2009 11:12am

@Anita: Thanks, Anita. I loved how this one turned out, yet it's different than others. It seems each flower is different when you add a texture or background. It's fun to see even how each person does the technique just a bit differently too.
