Smoky Mountain Morning

Posted by
Barbara Kile (Ft. Worth, United States) on 2 November 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

I just returned from a week in the Smoky Mountains and our last morning we were treated to the most beautiful and dramatic clouds I've ever seen. This was shot along Sparks Lane in Cades Cove early in the morning just before the sun rose over the mountains.

Gorgeous. I love the fences and the way that the road takes you into the forest, the place of mystery and wonder. Superbly processed.

Truly a wonderful colourful view Barbara. In such scenes it is sometimes quite difficult to decide on composition because the sky is wonderful and the hills too. You wanted to capture the sky so you decided to give it half of image. Fair enough ;)

@Tomas Turecek: Thanks, Tomas, and yes, this one is about the sky so I gave it more than half! :-)

Ed Vatza from Lehigh Valley, PA, United States

That is a truly spectacular composition/image, Barbara. I love the sky, the mountains and the color. I don't know if I should be picky in my first comment here but I feel like the image is leaning right just a tad. It may very well be an illusion but thought I would mention it.

2 Nov 2009 10:59am

@Ed Vatza: Yes, I did feel that too, but kept looking at the tree trunks, the fence, barn, etc and the hill does rise to the left..... but you may be right. Or left...... lol. Thanks, Ed!

I love the shot and how you have rendered it. The road and the fence lead our eyes into the scene. I'm wondering if a bit more of the road in the foreground might have enhanced the effect even more.
