Love Song

Posted by
Barbara Kile (Ft. Worth, United States) on 25 January 2010 in Art & Design and Portfolio.

I'm having fun playing with my rose. Here is a variation using a texture overlay. This image won IOTW in the weekly 'theme' category on BPN (Bird Photographers.net) for this past week. The theme was "Old Photos" so I used a neutral toned texture with a grungy vignette and the music with varying opacities for a 'worn' look. Viveza was used to brighten some of the rose and leaves.

This is lovely! The tones are perfect...Soft and subtle. I am very interested in learning how to use textures- can you recommend any tutorials?

25 Jan 2010 2:59pm

@Tracy: Thanks, Tracy. There are many ways to overlay textures; here's a tutorial on Flickr, where there are thousands of textures available for download: (while on flickr, type in a search for 'textures for layer.') http://www.flickr.com/photos/8078381@N03/sets/72157620997301853/ I take my own textures too, so you might start a couple of folders. Rename your downloaded ones and bookmark their sites as you'll need to give credit if you use them. If you come up with additional info, please pass it along! Thanks, and I hope this gets you started. If you know your way around PS with how to use layers, blending modes, masks, etc you'll be fine. Holler with any questions.
