Texas Bluebonnets

Posted by
Barbara Kile (Ft. Worth, United States) on 4 July 2011 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

There is ONE time to come to Texas to photograph, and that is in mid-April when the wild flowers are in bloom. This is a most photographed farm in Marble Falls, TX. However, something caused the owner to plow up the field and leave it abandoned a few years ago. Usually, Texans are most hospitable, but guess not in this case!

Gentle orton technique applied.

A bit of BLUE and white for the 4th. Just no red! :)

WELCOME and thanks for visiting!

B. Thomas from Arlington, Texas, United States

I love this shot. Perfect blue and white for the 4th. We went down that way in April, and as you probably know, there just weren't many bluebonnets because it was so dry. I didn't know he had plowed it up - just thought they didn't have any because of drought.

4 Jul 2011 12:31pm

@B. Thomas: Thanks, Barbara. Yeah, I heard the guy got 'p***ed off over something and plowed the whole field up. My last pass through there 3 years ago or so was nothing like this - it was totally abandoned. Hopefully, someone might renovate this farm.

Curly from South Shields, United Kingdom

To all my friends in Texas who tell me there is nothing to photograph - you just proved them wrong. Beautiful image! Happy 4th of July.

4 Jul 2011 2:22pm

@Don Smith: Thanks, Don! This beauty just lasts for 2-3 weeks, THEN there's nothing. :) Actually there's been slim pickins for a few years now due to the drought (and wildfires). Scenes like this are probably non existent now.

A beautiful capture...its beauty seems ephemeral...guess that is one reason why it is so treasured. I'm glad you captured this for posterity. Happy 4th, Barbara !!

Phil David Morris 2011 from Saskatoon, Toronto, Canada

Shame that big sprawling house is not being used, but that is the case with farms.
This scene is so picturesque with the empty house the cattle and the beautiful flowers
that turn most everything into a fantasy landscape, not a care in the world. Superb.

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

What a splendid view! It cannot be real...it makes me think that you've had a beautiful dream and the whole image came out of that dream!

@Jerry: Thank you very much, Jerry! Unfortunately due to the drought, these don't exist anymore. Sad state of affairs here in TX. Please visit again soon!
